That "post Katrina photo" was taken about 3 blocks from Fat's home in the lower 9th Ward. This area remains a "must see" if you're a tourist visiting the Big Easy

  • T'ain't it da Truth . . .

  • @saraswati2020 Dat it is!

  • No exactly where this photo was taken. Was there right after 'Katrina,' looking for Fat's home. It barely made it out alive, the story is quite bizarre to say the least. He lost all his pianos, sheet music, souveniors of 50 years, GONE!

  • @torrymarrs I noticed when they interviewed him recently about his and David Bartholomew being chosen as the 2010 American Music Masters honorees, his gold records appeared to have been replaced by the RIAA. Very minor compared to what was irreplaceable. But we still got Fats. By the way, tomorrow is Dave's birthday. 90 years old. You know what I will be putting on Youtube tomorrow.

  • Same scene in Chalmette. Houses destroyed, cars upside down. I drove through Chalmette and "Da Nint'Wawd" last year and I'm glad to see some progress and I got to show my wife Fats' house on Caffin and St. Claude.

  • @jasonlava I visited Gentilly in a densely populated neighborhood 4 weeks after the storm. There were still houses in the streets moved by the storm surge. I shut the engine off, got out my car and heard the most deafening silence ever. No kids playing, no dogs barking, no birds singing, no insect chirping; not a sound of anything. I still can't get "dat" silence out of my head. My 1st trip into the Lower 9th and Chalmette was the same weekend. The images will haunt me forever.

  • If he wrote this, it's awsome.

  • @9thWardJukebox Oh yeah. We went back. We were only able to save what was on high shelves or in the attic.

  • Domino was rescued by a Coast Guard helicopter. Al Embry confirmed that Domino and his family had been rescued. The Domino family was then taken to a Baton Rouge shelter, after which they were picked up by JaMarcus Russell, the starting quarterback of the Louisiana State University football team, and Fats' granddaughter's boyfriend. He let the Dominos stay in his apartment.
