Hey guys, MIDI controllers with control surfaces are quite common and affordable these days. They can control just about any aspect of your DAW, but their strength is in allowing you to control the DAW while at the keyboard as opposed to being used for a mixing session after tracking is finished. Since the most keyboards don't come with any Logic presets, lets take a look at how to configure all those buttons, faders and knobs from within Logic.

In this video we discus how to set-up your transport control, and faders as well as instrument. In Part 2 you learn how to switch mode on your keyboard (i.e. switch between instruments and settings) and give you the tools to get up and set up your control surface with Logic.

Go to the website @ www.imamusicmogul.com for a text description on how to do all the above.

  • YES YES YES! Thank you, you helped me do something Ive been trying to get for AGES! To do a mix with only one fader and one knob (I have a tiny controller!) Using Single Fader mode setup as shown in the later part of this video, set your fader to control the software fader, & the rotary to control pan. Then when mixer is open, you can step through the channels using L/R arrows on the keyboard, & the fader and rotary will only affect vol & pan of the selected channel. Very economical! Thank you!

  • @backshortly that is a good tip!!! Might share that one with everybody because a lot of people do work with smaller controllers!!!

  • i am thankful for what you are doing ..you help me out alot bro keep up the Good work and be blessed

  • also, for "single fader mode" you can just make sure to set the midi cc of your volume fader to 7, and your pan fader to 10, and they should automatically control the currently selected track, always. easy way to setup dedicated fader that doesn't even need a control assignments.

  • best video series ive seen in a LONG time

  • Amazing video. Thank you so much =D

  • I've been using usb connection only with garageband, and it seemed to work ok...is there any way i can do the same with logic? or do i need a midi interface?

  • When I exit out of logic the transport controls no longer work? Is there a way to save this so I don't have to redo this everytime I start logic again?

  • Great! :)

  • hey there mate is that stuff working with "pickup mode" as well?

cuz i have a couple of non motorized faders controllers, i manage to map em all up but still can't get the bloody pickup mode work. any advice? thanks

  • Ok now when I exit out of logic and start it back up I have to assign my transport buttons all over again is this normal or is there a way to save this so I don't have to do this every time I re open the program?
