Ford will introduce in early 2012 an innovative Lane Keeping System with three unique features designed to help drivers stay in control behind the wheel, including a Driver Alert System that can notify drivers if it detects signs of drowsiness. In this case, a coffee cup light will appear on the dashboard instrument cluster to suggest the driver take a break.

  • @dasfurian Yes, but the realization is almost half of drivers are below average. This technology could potentially make freeways alot safer...so long as people don't abuse the system.

  • Hi-tech innovation for Ford. This technology will surely be on top of the list for buyers. I can't wait to see this out of the market soon.

  • Finally, a way of forcing people to use their turn signals! Actually pretty cool where technology is taking vehicles.

  • To many uncertainties like a two lane highway as shown in video a vehicle needs to be overtaking and passed in the right conditions he/she execute the takeover pass the system pulls the ore back into its lane because the driver fail to turn on the proper signal to deactivate the lane assist. Now driver is frustrated and possibly more inclined to make a abrupt decision that could cause an accident.

  • Looks cool but guess it will be annoying after all

  • @emnotahero well, set the indicator. Should switch this system off.

  • @JackTheRyder2 I can only see sense in incorporating this device if it involves a course in how it works. I'm sure Ford will include customization in this gizmo to make sure the signal is abrupt enough but doesn't scare the driver. (Some go nuts when rolling on the Bott's dots.)

And the system does intrude as shown at 2:30. Could that provoke a harmful reaction?

I maintain my point that this will not necessarily aid drowsy/wandering/senile drivers. Education would, but that's too much trouble.

  • @DamazViccar No, this is the exact same thing. This thing doesn't help you drive. It starts beeping when you're not driving straight, i.e. a sign that you are fatigue and tells you that you should take a break. Likewise, having this alarm on board in no way encourages reckless driving. Someone's that's fatigue won't know that they're not driving straight.
