Rocky mountains and Kentucky mountains are almost the same. I've grown up raising, training, and breeding these horses and honestly the only difference I've found is that the Rocky Mountain Horse Association is a little more strict in which horses they will accept to register. Rocky Mountains can be registered Kentucky Mountain. Kentucky Mountain horses may also be half mountain horse and half some other gaited breed...like Tennessee Walker, Paso, etc. All my Rockies are also registered as Kent

@Equestrian08 Kentucky Mountain horses have more stocky neck and head.... Their faces resemble those of Paso Finos.

I recently purchased a Kentucky Mountain Horse. I've been owning, handling, and studying horses for twelve years but I have never owned a gaited horse before. They are amazing! However I have I question about the breed. I know they are quite similar to Rocky Mountain horses but I haven't really been able to pin point the main difference. May I ask what the main difference is between Kentucky Mountain and Rocky Mountain horses are? Any input is highly appreciated. Thanks :)
