Helmet camera footage from my run at the 2008 Firefighter Stairclimb in Seattle, WA on Sunday, March 2 2008.
The Scott Firefighter Stairclimb is an annual firefighter competition in the Columbia Center in downtown Seattle, WA. Competitors come from around the world, from as far as New Zealand! The event consists of a race up the stairwell from the fourth floor to the 73rd floor - 69 flights, 1,311 steps. It's no ordinary race - we all wear full protective gear, including our air packs and masks.
If you haven't done it before, it was definitely worth the effort. Not only does it raise money for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society (a great cause!), but it promotes a high physical fitness standard, the camaraderie among the competitors is awesome, and actually, it was a lot of fun. I'll definitely be back there next year!

@Zoidberg227 Loved this video. I've been thinking about doing the climb myself and your video really gives a great idea of what it's like. Are you doing the climb in 2012?

Wow, props! I see this on the news every year and it's really great seeing it from the perspective of a climber. It must take a lot of integrity to do this.

Thank you for that. Congratulations! I was going to have a day off training today. But you have motivated me to get off my arse. I do wonder about my sanity, traveling half the world to Seattle to feel like I am dying from about Floor 20. Keep an eye out for us Kiwi's on the 8th!

This doesnt look like fun at all, I would much rather run the Firefighter Challenge. The winner mush have really been moving to finish under 12 mins.

"Fun" is probably not the right word, but it definitely was worth it and I'll definitely run it again. It was certainly a rewarding challenge.
