I have the same exact problem with my 2009 malibu hybrid. It has only 14k miles on it. I have turned it into the dealership 3 times to to get the problem corrected. They replaced the steering column and sensor but to no avail. I have never seen such incompetence from chevy as a whole in identifying and correcting a vehicle issue. I am so pissed off because, like others, i feel this can be a potential safety hazard. I should not have toknowingly put my life on the line when driving my car.

Same issue on my '08. Began at 27k miles. I also had the door lock failure also mentioned here. Bizarre. That was fixed while still under warranty 7 months ago. Now this strange steering issue is occurring for me, out of warranty.

GM fails to officially make a recall on power steering issues with 2008 Malibu and other models, but instead mails a letter stating you may have this problem. Unfortunately the dealers are passing the problem off saying "they can't duplicate" the involuntary intermittent jerking of the steering wheel. Well thanks to the internet and YouTube, they can now see hundreds of videos with the same problem and apparently the problem has been around for at least 5 years.

see the Lexus video that is something.
HI, DAVID HERE AND I HAVE A 2008 MALIBU LT. WHICH IS STARTING TO HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM ,DURING PARKING IN A TIGHT SPACE..ALSO MY REAR DOORS NO LONGER AUTO WORK and MY RT. BLINKER DOES'NT CANCEL AFTER A TURN. THIS CAR ONLY HAS 16,000 MILES ON IT..I;D BETTER GET IT BACK TO G.M. WOW!

@DWOODSON930 Funny, my Malibu (in this video!) also would have a stuck left blinker whenever finishing a turn and the back driver-side door no longer locks/unlocks and has to be done manually. By now (47,000 miles) the bumper-to-bumper is expired and I do not want to cough up the cash. The blinker was fixed with the warranty though, just tell them and get a video recording. Otherwise they'll say "cannot replicate."

Did the dealer fix it? What did they do? I have the same problem and the dealer did not have a clue about what to do about it.

@casals81 Yes it was eventually fixed after I sent a link of this video to GM Customer Support with the location and dealer ID number of my preferred dealer in town. It took about two months and the car refusing to make a turn that nearly caused my Malibu to kiss a few trees and brush for it to get fixed. Now the paneling below the steering wheel is a little droopy (not falling though). I'd have to say, this will be my last Chevy bought new.
