Background...2 outs, teams are going back and forth in the lead, and the 1st baseman is stretched out to get the throw from 3rd. (Ignore the yelling, I didn't realize he was hurt, when I did, I turned off the camera!)

The runner changes his stride and makes NO ATTEMPT to hit the base. Instead, he goes for the player's calf with his metal spikes to make him drop the ball from pain.

This is not the 1st incident with this particular team. I've coached against them in the past, and our AAA team was created this year from 3 or 4 different teams...yet every parent has a "story" about the sportsmanship of this team...or lack thereof.

Did we lose? Yes. Do I care? NO!! (For those of you who know me...that doesn't happen!! I'm competitive!) Does it take the potential of seriously injuring a child (12 years old...come on!) to have someone speak up??

Ask yourself this...would you see this kind of conduct in MLB? Then why is it acceptable (or at least not reprimanded/sanctioned) with kids? What coach condones (by looking the other way) and/or fosters this environment of "win at any cost"? NOT one I'd have my son playing for, ever. Frankly, the coach doesn't think enough of his own coaching abilities and/or players to be able to win a game on SKILL.

The 1st baseman won't be playing against that team again...that incident could have broken his leg with a play like that, and for what? A W in a CONSOLATION BRACKET of a tournament? That's class.

  • Looked like an accident.

  • It was no accident.

  • Ooooh Is he okay? (After that game)

  • He's fine, and getting ready for the upcoming season. :)

  • that boy did it perposely. He dserves his butt get beat and get throne out of the game. His parents need to pay for the medical bills. That kid is a sore loser who is a wimp. The fist base man I have to give him props. You made an exellent play and keep on doing what you do best.

  • Luckily there were no medical bills...but there easily could have been. He was just fortunate he only bruised his entire calf.
