Gender-based violence is any act or threat of physical, sexual or psychological aggression against a woman. It is a human rights violation, and is one of the most serious public health problems worldwide.
Considering that violence can have harmful effects on a woman's health, particularly her sexual and reproductive health, the International Planned Parenthood Federation/Western Hemisphere Region developed a regional project to help clients at its clinics who are survivors of violence.
This video presents some of the lessons learned from these experiences, and offers a summary of the steps that the health sector can take to fight violence.
Even though this video may cover some of the key issues that must be considered in any health care institution, those institutions that are interested in improving the services they offer to survivors of violence should seek additional training and resources.
Throughout this process, always keep in mind that the most important thing to protect the women's safety.
