Floodwaters from the Big Sioux River cover the bottomland area (lower agricultural field) at Sioux City's railroad museum area. This video tracks the inudation, rise and fall of the Big Sioux River in a series of videos taken at the Milwaukee Railroad Shops Historic District in Sioux City, Iowa. The Big Sioux River has been running near or above flood stage (99 ft.) for most of the spring. The Big Sioux River is above flood stage in Sioux City due to the backfill of the Missouri River flooding as a result of record releases from the upstream Missouri River dam system, as well as the heavy snowmelt and rainfalls in the upper South Dakota Big Sioux River basin.
