  • Yes, it is, but it is also a Russian march. Germany and Russia were allies during the socalled War of the Sixth Coalition against Napoleon. This march was composed in those days and became equally popular within the German and Russian military.

  • Basically this is Alter Jagermarsch (march of volunteer Prussian chasseurs) which was borrowed by tsar Alexander I in 1813. But the Russian version was essentially modified and differs from the original. It has been actively used under the name Egerski marsh not only in the tsar times, but also in the middle and late USSR.

    The Soviet authorities associated this march with Tzarist Russia and Germany, and they allowed it to be played only on a couple of occasions.
