In this video we see 60163 Tornado, 4468 Mallard and 47798 Prince William on a movement from the National Railway Museum at York to the one at Shildon. Northallerton station was packed with enthusiasts today trying to get a glimpse of Mallard on the mainline, a great day!

  • Why is there three trains there? To help the steam engine?

  • 4468 Mallard is not allowed to steam so 60163 was brought in to take 4468 to Shildon the carriage acts as a support coach, 47798 the diesel on the rear was used for vacuum braking as well as a Thunder Bird should the steam fail.

  • @Intercity47GBRail hi i love steam trains i remember watching the bbc documantary on the mallard when it broke the record for a steam train it was on a few months ago. Why is the train not allowed too steam or in working order?

  • Hi, the engine is as close to an original A4 as you can get and for that reason the owners (The National Railway Museum) will not run it, They also say costs for restoration is an issue but Ia find that hard to believe the way they waste money. I doubt it will steam again for these reasons but fingers crossed it will some day!

  • Thanks for posting. Plenty of admirers on the platform i notice. Great to see.

  • Yeah it was packed, thanks.

  • @Intercity47GBRail hi you say original a4 is it the mallard tht broke the record? or another engine that bears the name?. i seen the documantary were the engine ran in the 80s as part of its anniversary. and i agree if they were able too travel too turky and bring back churchill steam trains too restore im sure they could put it back in working order watch the space.

  • Excellent Shot of these fantastic locos! ;)

  • i wonder why they don't just repair mallard and let her steam on the mainline where she sohuld be and not stuck in a museum

  • just retro seen this, your vid is same as mine, tall and thin on 16.9 when uploaded to you tube, problem now sorted by putting "yt:stretch=16:9" in the tags box, preferably first and leave a space before adding your tags, it sorts out the tall thin appearance. nice video, cheers.

  • @Intercity47GBRail

If last christmas and the snow was anything to go by, when steamers were the only locos running, we may yet get our wish, if the weather carries on.
