  • Sorry for the dumb question but does that have an alternator on it?

  • Yes, just about any electric start outboard has and alternator these days. It's underneath the flywheel. It's usually called a stator which has 2 sections- one for charging the battery and one for charging the ignition system.

  • what was reason for rebuild

  • I do believe it had stuck the rings and damaged #4 piston and cylinder. These V blocks stick the rings quite easily from an engineering standpoint. Then cheap oil and too much idleing will stick the rings as well.

  • That is a valve for manually priming the motor. If you open it and squeeze the fuel bulb, it will allow gas into the intake. Much like when you push the key in. It also will allow fuel in when the motor is running if it's open. This will eventually flood the motor.

  • @andrewblake1 it's the choke for manual start just like if you'd push in the key when you start the engine normally.

  • i have a 48 spl evinrud it one is it worth to rebuild one and how much for parts to do it your self

  • I'm thinking of buying a 1988 90 hp outboard engine the guy that is selling it says that the engine starts but the pistons need to be change I wonder if I should do it since I know how to change pistons?

  • looking at the front of the motor to the left on top of the carb what is the red dial adjustment... i have one not sure what it is thanks
