Good to see someone has put a video up! I spin off the thigh, but sitting down, and it works just as well. FYI, if you have backspin problems, it can be because the spindle is too light; try turning it upside down and using it bottom whorl.

hey, that's interesting. I've never tried spinning it off the thigh. Also, how do you get it to spin so long. Mine, though still top whorl, starts to backspin pretty quickly. I wonder what I'm doing wrong.

I did order that one. I am trying to get into painting some of my own, but that particular one actually came from a local wool/roving producer at Wauka Farms.

Hi, without watching its kind of hard to know. Maybe trying to give it a good spin off the thigh will give it enough momentum. I started spinning by using the park and draft method you can always do it that way. It may also be your spindle. It may not have enough weight to keep spinning.
