@Ptiddles Agree. The more hip/shoulder resistance (torque) you create on the backswing, the more immediate & connected the upper body response will be once the hips begin their downswing shift/turn. This connected-ness leads to power and consistency, provided you allow the hands to drop into 'the slot' during the shift and maintain a little lag.

This connected-ness leads to power and consistency, provided you maintain a little lag and don't allow the arms/hands to be flung early/excessively out toward the target line.
This is a position drill. You can restrict your hip turn all you want and if you don't reach this position it's useless. If your friends want more distance than they should increase their club head lag first. This hip restiction idea is true but not first priority.mnay videos on increasing lag here.Try closing the right angle on the dowswing for one.
I think that is something you teach to the advanced player. I love golf and try to get all my friends into it. I confuse them with the hip restriction. If they get solid contact then ask me how to get more distance then I tell them about restricting the hips. You are right tho just depends at what stage the golfer is at.
@silowhore When you have over-developed trapezius muscles, that's the kind of logic you use.

sort of an old school drill. you get more distance and control if you move your hips less on the way back and create some torque
