Art Vuolo's tribute to Don Payne

WZPL in Indianapolis used to own the city back in the early 90's. I am proud to say that I was a part of the team at that time. Don Payne was our fabulous chief engineer and as you will see on this video aircheck, he was also a tremendous radio personality. We lost him to pancreotic cancer last week, and this was a man who honestly never said a bad word about anyone! What a beautiful tribute this video is ... to his life!! Thank you Art Vuolo for loving radio as much as the rest of us... you are an angel walking on this earth! Not only is that my great friend Don Payne, but that's also my yellow lab JAZZ that was 12 years old at the time! Oh yeah... and that's me back when I had dark hair, Sally Jesse Rafael sunglasses... and a wedding band on my finger!

I only got to meet Don once, but he seemed like the hell of a guy everyone mentions. What a great jock, too! I miss those days of radio. And, radio surely misses those days of Don.
