Novel Wastewater Treatment Technology
A research team in NUI Galway has developed and filed a patent application on a simple robust pumped flow biofilm reactor (PFBR) wastewater treatment
technology. The PFBR system uses readily available plastic biofilm media and simple pumps in reactor tanks to remove organic carbon, nitrogen and phosphorus at low costs in comparison with more traditional systems.
"With national regulations and EU directives driving the need for purification of wastewaters, great opportunities exist world-wide for our cost-effective, sustainable PFBR technology" adds Edmond O'Reilly, a researcher at NUI Galway.
