Finishing off my recent batch of C.A.R.S. coverage with some of my usual chit chat and random thoughts, looking forward to future builds but for now, this is coming along nicely and you can download a copy for yourself from the official site here: http://www.wmdportal.com/

  • Hey man, what settings are you using when you play here and when you play in other videos? I mean assists :) I played this without any assists, well auto clutch and man it was hard but its REALLY good.. the friggin sounds from the cars are just insane. Handling is very good, same level as rFactor but the game is made by GTR makers so no wonder. Anyway really nice game, sad its not complete yet but its a brilliant move to get the game out to players year before release if not even more.

  • @HDTanel Oh this is all assists off, manual with auto clutch, saying that the Formula cars would always use a auto clutch anyway (apart from the hand clutch at the start). It's coming along well and I hope to run another update soon.

  • @MrFrumpleGrump Sure, basically the game was altered late in its development and somethings couldn't easily be altered, hence the er shifty handling. :)

  • @MrFrumpleGrump I played the original before handling alteration and rasied it with the VP of EA /watch?v=c6rQYjMJJ4s not a story I've been sold, more one of my own personal experience and supported with this interview.

  • @MrFrumpleGrump Shift 1 handled perfectly, then at a late stage EA wanted to make it easier so the handling was essentially hacked to fix this. Buildng on this version the hole left was still there and though the physics system was solid the said hack obviously couldn't be resolved. Fixed for Cars so far, no sloppy handling, no cars that are unable to go in a straight line. Coming along nicely, expect many more previews in the coming months.

  • @MrFrumpleGrump To be fair you should have watched all of my coverage which discussed the issues with different cars and how they handle, the Radical was fine on the PS3 but terrible on the PC, the patch improved things but could never completely repair handling, which, at its core was broken.

  • @Motorsports43 That's only for the pre-alpha version. You'll have to pay for the final version of the game.

  • @jrguitargeek Cars IS a pc game.

  • @scrustle The one issue of this stealing of business with racing franchises is that it can only negatively impact the quality of the end user's experience, through the cutbacks in features and general 'monetisation' of what is meant to be an un-biased representation of racing a vehicle.

The moment that publishers of these franchises realised that they could degrade the quality of their simulations for additional profits was a disappointing time indeed.

I hope C.A.R.S. will be a nice change.

  • @scrustle I believe Shift was aiming for delivering a very 'raw', visceral (so to speak) racing experience in terms of immersion, though the actual execution of the design idea was tainted by EA's strategy to sell it off to as many audiences as possible. Every track-based racing game, even Forza, GT, iRacing, rFactor and Shift, is deserving of a simulation label, as the commonly accepted definition states that they are programs that attempt to imitates the behaviour of their intended process.
