White House Telephone

President Richard Nixon calls Nellie Connally, the wife of his Secretary of the Treasury, John Connally, to thank her for her birthday present. Mrs. Connally takes the opportunity to thank him in return for a letter that the President sent her on her wedding anniversary. She even tells him that he's "fun."

  • richard nixon is a human being

  • @wriggly Many people with low selfesteem don't take compliments very well because, subconsciously or not, they believe the person may be lying to make them feel better about themselves, or they're making fun of them.

Nixon undeniably had low selfesteem, be it physically or personalitywise.

  • She actually shut him up for once.

  • Impatient - yes, well I guess the President is pretty busy. But what is striking in most of the phone calls he makes is that he is uncomfortable with any compliments . He almost never acknowledges or expresses any appreciation of such comments. He was a good campaigner by all accounts and could work a large crowd, but was awkward on a on-to-one basis.

  • true in all the tapes on You Tube he's always rushing and trying to end the call as soon as he starts it. Very impatient.

  • ''wait a minute''....i can understand that listening to these tapes: he doesn't let the other person get a word in edgewise.
