This week Kylie Bowen from Western Legacy would like to demonstrate a way to get your horses paying attention to you, and softening to your hands at the standstill. The best way to do so is lateral flexion. Flexing gets your horse soft and supple, and really makes a difference in the way your horse acts when you're interacting with him. Next Tip of the Week: Vertical Flexion.

  • I really liked the way you explained this. What do you do if the horse moves while you flex him/her?

  • @Ranavor I'm glad you asked this question. I feel bad I used a horse that didn't give me many problems, as I know most everyone else experiences things way worse than what Rocky did. When the horses move, turn in circles, get stupid, etc, the key thing is to stay with them, and keep holding the pressure until they stand still, and give to that first extent. Remember, horses learn from the RELEASE of pressure, not the actual pressure itself. The quicker you release, the quicker they learn.
