The story behind this video starts on the Caribbean Island of St. Vincent. In 1635, two slave ships wrecked there and the African slaves escaped to freedom. They mixed in with the native Caribs, giving birth to a new Afro-Caribbean culture - the Garifuna (Gareefoonah). In the centuries since, the Garifuna migrated and founded villages along the Caribbean coast of Central America. Lonny Shavelson reports from Guatemala. You can hear his radio report at http://www.theworld.org/globalhit

@Sandinobobo I'm not a Black American or an African but I have to say you are some kind of dickhead, do you know every black American or African how lazy is the American president Obama? or Farrah Gray the African American 14 year old millionaire what about all the African American sports stars and power players in business. I think you're the lazy one because you do what lazy people do generalize

I think it is good if you do not write that the Garifuna "migrated" which is actually a lie, they were robbed from their country, killed and sent away by the British.
Yes the culture is beautiful, but we need the whole history to understand it.
Thank you very much
