Double the dose of gorgeous Frenchmen: Louis Jourdan & Charles Boyer! A coming of age story centered on a French Canadian family in Ottawa. Boyer plays Jacques Bonnard, family man and father of Bibi (Bobby Driscoll). Louis Jourdan is Jacques' womanizing brother, Desmond. The third brother is Louis (Kurt Kasnar), who likes drinking lots of cheap wine from a water dispenser.

  • I'd love to know who sings that title song. They don't give credit, either here or on IMDB, but it sounds almost like Charles Trenet. Maurice Chvalier would have been a good choice for the assignment, as well.

This is definitely on my list of "The Best Films You've Never Seen." Boyer and Jourdan are, as ever, terrific, Kasnar better than usual. And Bobby Driscoll, who could've gone on to bigger things from here. Sweet Christ, what a waste! Those awful drugs, and another ex-kid star obit.

  • @librarybob1958 Charles Boyer is singing the song. He's great!

  • @Kuchlenz I don't believe he ever sang on film before or after. I also guessed at Georges Guetary. He IS great!

  • @librarybob1958 He sang in 'Algiers', 1938. He plays Pepe Le Moko - the character that Warner Bros based Pepe le Pew on!. He also had an album. For some reason, YouTube isn't letting me post the links. Look up Charles Boyer and 'Algiers' or Charles Boyer and La Vie en Rose.
