The next peak in the sunspot cycle will happen in 2012 and might be 30-50% stronger than the last one, according to a breakthrough forecast using a computer model of solar dynamics developed by scientists at the National Center for Atmospheric Research (NCAR).

On top of that, NASA has found two large leaks in Earth's magnetosphere, the region around our planet that shields us from severe solar storms. http://www.space.com/scienceastronomy/081216-agu-solar-storm-shield-break.html

And then there is also the Collapse of Earth's Upper Atmosphere

  • Dr. Kaku says every 11 years so that means this happened in 2001 and i dont remember anything happening back then?

  • @KENNYKISS69 The sunspot cycle peaks every 11 years, but normally that cause no problems because the peak is not very high. In 2012-13 it will be much higher that usual. That’s the point.

  • Job qualifications for cable news presenters: Must be arrogant and able to read at the fourth grade level. Scientific illiteracy a must.

Hard to understand how this passes for entertainment, let alone news.

  • i love this asian guy!!

  • I like how the jackass news anchor smirks the entire time about a possible collapse of civilization as we know it.

  • Yep, Nasa's discreetly warning us, It's funny how ignorant ppl want to stay. But that's there problem, the strong will survive.

  • 1:29, my new ring tone, but to actually have Mr. Kaku tell us this, we should take it serious.

  • BOY-YO-YO-YOING

  • Its normal usually but this one comes 2012, not in 2014 as it should and it will be much much stronger than usual.

  • I've been reading about it in our astronomy magazines in Italy since years. Effectivly it's normal but not for our thecnologic society.
