Render out multiple passes in maya as an OpenExr file then composite them in nuke. Tutorial aims to get you up and running with multipass rendering in Maya as quickly as possible. In this example we render out and comp an ambient occlusion pass a diffuse pass a specular pass and a shadow pass.

  • Sometimes when i use AO pass, it's either totally white or only has subtle occlusion. Any idea what is it causing it to be like this? Sometimes specular or diffuse doesn't work too. Is it because i'm using MIA material? This is really helpful especially i Nuke user like me. Thanks for sharing and hope you can answer my questions!

  • @sgdevilzz Sorry about the late reply for AO try adjusting the min and max distance, for the MIA material make sure you upgrade it to MIA_passes. Best of luck to you.

  • Very nice and straight forward way to quickly show how this works! Thank you!

One quick off topic question: Which version of Linux did you use?

  • @ujedith Ubuntu 11.04 thanks for the comment nice to know someone found it helpful

  • @simplymayacom Absolutely helpful. I now have no problem using exr in Nuke. But I wonder do you know anything about using them in fusion? I know how to set up the loaders, et al...but have a crazy time with the alpha in the final composite. It creates some weird blend mode problem. I can't be the only person with this issue.

  • good tutorial thanks

  • What material have U used? Was it just simple maya blin or have U used mia material X passes?
