SILVER WINNERS of International Dance Competition in Cairo

- Maria: We got silver in Cairo this time (2008), but the biggest wish of our hearts is to go on dancing as well as developing and materializing our new ideas.
- ETV Tuuli Koch: How did you, two very beautiful girls, discover oriental belly dance?
- Lizi: We saw a male dancer in Turkey. His technique was fabulous, as well as emotional output! So we fell in love with the dance. We started learning Eastern dance from 1998. But before we danced ballet and ballroom dances in childhood, Spanish flamenco and Indian dance later on.
- ETV Tuuli Koch: You are not pure Estonians. Do you have hot Eastern blood as well?
- Maria: Oh, sure! When I hear the Eastern music, I feel fire, energy overwhelms me and I want to dance non-stop! Our Mom has very interesting mixture of different cultures. Probably as the result we are fond of Eastern culture!
- ETV Tuuli Koch: How did the audience react to your dance in Arab countries?
- Lizi: Oh, it was great! It was not our first time performing in Egypt. We danced before at festivals, private parties, local weddings and festivities! And what was the feedback! The audience watched us not because of the shape or skin colour, but valued the way we danced, choice of music, our emotions and our technique of course!
- ETV Tuuli Koch: You won silver in Egypt at the contest. What kind of opportunities does is open for you?
- Maria: After the festival in Egypt we were invited to participate in a casting to the dance show on Lebanese television, on LBC. On this show you can see mostly Arab girls dancing. It is a great chance for us, foreigners, to participate there! And for sure when your dance is valued by international jury, you get extra power and extra energy to develop new projects, create new dances and new performances!
- ETV Tuuli Koch: Belly dances main idea is to be feminine. There is a pattern and a fashion for a slightly plumpish body type. Are there many people interested in belly dance in Estonia?
- Lizi: We are also glad to admit that in belly dance nobody limits a dancer by saying your weight should not exceed a certain number kilograms. The main is to move, the main criteria is your own body and your own individuality and abilities. Audience and dancers should take care about emotions and a message to be addressed to spectators.
- ETV Tuuli Koch: Before we are going to see your dance and read your message, tell us please is belly dance a training, dance or seduction?
- Maria: Belly dance is rich and versatile dance, it concerns all you mentioned and much more! And we try to broaden the frames of oriental belly dance! All the choreographies we present are our own creation. We create dances with the plot and choreographies with an idea or a narrative, performances and stories.
- Lizi: All the choreographies we present are our own work. Our doing of the Choreographer-Director Master Studies at Tallinn University is of great help to us as well.
- ETV Tuuli Koch: Cant wait anymore! The stage is yours! Sisters Shahrazad!
