One of my many favorite songs from HURT. I always listen to this song back to back because it makes me think. Its a powerful song and I cant believe many never heard it or heard of the band...

this song is about a girl he loved who married someone else, then she dies, and he doesnt want to beleive it because hell never have the chance to have her love, and realising that will drive him crazy

ok really stop guessing what the lyrics are about this is House Carpenter originally a poem called the Daemon Lover that is a british poem from 1912 lots of ppl have made songs about this poem Its about satan not jesus. He comes to get his former lover its just a coincadence about the carpenter part

According to Hurt's forums, there are MANY interpretations of this song, yet NONE have been verified....Some reference the poem you mention....The lead singer has said it is from the old Celtic folk song "The House Carpenter". Which ever you prefer to believe, or if you have your own interpretation, one thing remains.....It is an amazing song.
