izvadeno od "Eden na Eden so Zare" (A1 tv)

english:
Viacom is one of the biggest world media conglomerates. They own MTV, VH1, Nickelodeon, Comedy Central and hundreds of other companies. Autumn, 2005, one of the managers of Viacom (MTV networks), Michael Wolf did everything he could to persuade Mark Zuckerberg to sell Facebook, site that didn't enjoy that much of popularity back than. 21 at the time, Zuckerberg flew with Wolf's private airplane from California to NY and got an unexpected question -- Why don't you sell to us? Don't you want one of these for yourself? What the Viacom representative didn't know was that the boy was completely stubborn and persuasive in believing that in the future buying an airplane like that would be like weekly shopping in the local supermarket. The 800 mil $ offer was rejected right away. Anyway, Zuckerberg wasn't impolite and thanked the man for the ride.
The millions weren't on his mind at all when he launched the site on feb.4 2004. Zuckerberg paid 35 $ for the registration of the address which back then was thefacebook.com. The beginning was tough. The company had moved to the IT paradise, the city of Palo Alto in California. The complete financing was covered by Mark and his Harvard roommate Dustin Moskovitz. Both of them literally lived in the offices. This duo became a trio when 24 year old Saun Parker joined them. Besides the work, Sean was needed for one more thing. The guys couldn't legally buy any alcohol because they haven't turned 21.
Facebook had 200 000 accounts by sep.2004. This made the gang really happy. But also worried, because it meant they needed money. Offers for buying the company were coming every day, but Mark turned them all down.
Private investor Peter Thiel, fascinated by Fb, without doubt gave half a million dollars to Mark for 10 % of the Fb shares. This was undoubtably one of the best investments in history, because the value of the shares went berserk, multiplying by hundreds of times.
During fall of 2004 Fb began its evolution and got closer to what it is now. The "wall" was represented for the first time. Till oct.2004, the account number got as high as 500 000 and it was clear that Peter Thiel's money were not enough to keep pace with the ever growing infrastructure.
Silicon Valley went crazy when the word was out that Fb needed cash. Numerous big offers were delivered to Mark's mailbox, but guess what? He rejected them all.
All but one. April 1, 2005. Accel Partners, world leading venture and growth equity firm offered 13 mil $ for 13 %. The young enterprenuers thought it was some kind of an April fool's joke. That night Jim Breyer, head manager of Accel and one of the managers in the largest company in the world, Wal-Mart, invited Zuckerberg and Cohler to dinner in the elegant Village Pub near Palo Alto. Breyer had a bottle of Quilceda Creek Cabernet costing 400 $. What about Mark? He ordered Sprite.
With the new investment Fb entered a new era. Millions of new users were lured in the Fb zone with the new adjustments of the platform. Zuckerberg realized that he really had a gold mine. July 2006, Terry Semel from Yahoo offered 1 billion dollars but Mark rejected like it was 50 cent.
In an informal conversation with the CEO of Microsoft and one of the richest in the world, Steve Balmer, Mark suggested that Fb was worth 15 billion dollars. Balmer said -- OK. Let us buy you. For 15 billion. Zuckerberg agreed to sell, but only 1.6 % of the company for unbelievable 240 million $, making Fb reach an indirect market value of 15 billion, and delivering another great investment in what is the number 1 world phenomenon right now.
