I created a video lesson for bass players that would like to learn the left hand slap technique (LH slap). I've done my best to explain the concept and to provide examples, hope it comes in handy! :D Tab is available:

  • Do you need really low action to get a clean sound?

  • @Honda599Girl Heya! My action isn't super low but I think having brand new strings definitely helps as the older / duller they get makes it harder! You've got great bass videos BTW!

  • Wow! That's really interesting. I have been playing bass for about a year, now but I have to admit that I don't know some of the proper techniques of bass playing. My bass is ready now and I am going to try the technique that you showed.

Thank-you for your time and selfless service!

  • nice--that's a really cool sounding technique, I was trying to figure out how to play my bass to sound like a drum roll--so this helps

  • @paultaite Thanks Paul.

Maybe I was born without a left hand slap gene.

I just can't seem to do this.

    It eludes me.

  • Nice video. I've been doing regular slap bass for some years now...never really taking it that seriously. I can play some chilis and bungle stuff. But this looks like a a good trick I've been missing. That extra percussive note could work wonders. Thanks for the lengthy explanation. Watching TV will never be boring again lol.

  • Why is your shirt too tight D:

  • this video is awesome. thank you.

  • cool man, i can do it slow now XD

  • I really like this technique when I got the feel it and learn to mix it with other stuff

  • @SENIORTACO101 maybe you're not muting the notes correctly... besides the left hand slap should have the same feel as the thumb slap, hit and let go, don't let the notes ring
