Unknown "Joe" Singer - This Time (DJ Shadow Sample)

The original studio reel sampled by DJ Shadow for his track "This Time (I'm Gonna Try It My Way)"...so elusive that even he doesn't know who sang it.

This reel was apparently found in an abandoned recording studio in the Bay area that was about to close down. The reel was labeled "Joe", and there were a couple of tracks on it, but this was the standout. Somebody found it, and showed it to Shadow, who liked the sound of it and sampled it for his track. It's from 1967, apparently. Props to Swayze from Soulstrut, who found the reel, Shadow, Fraykerbreaks (for posting this) and of course Joe himself for performing this amazing track.

I really Like this song. I find it far better than the "remix" more soulful with out the accompaniment of all the added noise from dj shadows version

@raschdieek You likely never will. Old reels like this are typical of studios that employed musicians off the street to record demos for them, usually being paid in soda and hot dogs (at least in Cleveland and New York at the time) or some other cheap commodity. My guess is this guy was in it for the money and wanted to sell a song, which explains that it's fairly sparse and the tracking isn't even particularly well done.

@mak10z Thumbs up to you, sir. I totally feel the same way. This song has so much heart into it, it's crazy. I wish we all knew who the artist was, so I could find more of him!
