Ft. Lauderdale AIRPORT wants to expand its airport ASAP - and local government is trying to make it happen before the story gets out !

The FAA, the Environmental IMPACT STUDY and the COUNTY COMMISSIONERS have all agreed the EXPANSION of the airport should be the SOUTH RUNWAY, but most every person in Broward County, Ft. Lauderdale, Dania Beach, and the surrounding areas DISAGREE -

Most residents AGREE that the parallel N . Runway is the better decision.

The S. Runway :
1.) Costs more 2.) Has worse environmental impacts 3.) Affects 3x as many homes 4.) Will be the most dangerous runway built to date

So what is the motivation behind the decision to support the most detrimental choice ?

AMERICA - YOU DECIDE !
Get this out there and let your voice be heard !

  • Matt - Two things. I'm not against airport expansion, it's the first thing I say in the video. They could have built this without going south of the Dania Cut off Canal. IT could have all been easily redone and fit into the area they have now;

The airport chose to do this because the N parallel expansion was much cheaper and was unable to figure out how to spend the most amount of the " stored " airports cash

    Don't you see, it's all politics ?

  • Sounds like you need a job as a Broward County Commissioner...lol

  • (part-1)

Let see, I'm landing on the new South Runway (9R / 27L) my gear collapses. My right seater is calling for Fire-Rescue as Im doing the Evacuation ProcedureMean-while, my Right Fuel Tank is Ruptured and Fuel is pouring out and down the steep sides of the runway. We try to open the Door and cant because the Fuselage is Twisted. I notice Fire-Rescue cant get through the Bottle Neck of Aircraft on the taxi-way leading to the Runway !!!!!!!!!!

  • Sure, meanwhile are you spilling your gas all over the private residential homes or the already allocated "eminent domained" area that exists for this very reason ?

  • The rationale is a safety one. Everytime a plane has to cross a runway you dimish safety. With your plan, regardless of what is used as a dept or arrival runway, a plane must cross an active runway to get to the terminal. Right now you have traffic jams on the north runway and could have bottlenecks with 2 parallels to the north. With the extension of the south runway you eliminate bottle necks on the taxiways and can split up the traffic to 2 runways vs one.

  • You mention the fuel residue on your video. So you complain about 150 airplanes flight on top of you which emit little fuel emissions but don't really care about I-95 and the hundreds of thousands of cars that emit way more emissions than airplanes do. ATC suggesting than a parallel runway is better than 2 separate ones is wrong. They are unsafe because of distance, nothing else. Do your research right!

  • Unless you bought your house before WW 2 before the airport existed.. I don't see how you really have the right to complain at all!!..

You knew the airport was there before you purchased your property.. and should have known that over time airport traffic would always increase and airplanes are always getting bigger..

Crossing Runways is dangerous.. and the distance of the second north runway from the southern terminals increases airplane taxi time..

  • People get over it !! They are going to go ahead with the runway expansion rather you want it or not!

  • Nice job, Kevin! In 2003, I was in grad school at NSU in the Conflict Analysis and Resolution program; I took a class in Public and Environmental Disputes. The FLL dispute was my research subject. In addition to attending many meetings and reading and researching incessantly on the subject as a "neutral" whose goal it was to analyze and assess the conflict in a manner helpful to achieving win-win, J. Rodstrom read my paper. His response: Nice for academia; too idealistic for practice. Hmm.

  • WITH THIS NEW PLAEN YOU PARKING FEES ARE GOING UP. TAXI,SHUTTLE,LIMO,HOTEL SHUTTLES AND RENTAL CARS. WILL HAVE TO PAY EXTRA $5.00 PER TRIP WITCH YOU WILL PAY AS A PASSENGER.ALL THESE FEES ARE TO PAY FOR BCAD OPERATIONS.RUMWAY 9L CAN BE 9 MIDDLE AND CONVER TAXI WAY IN TO 9L WITH LESS MONEY.

  • You make a good argument over cost issues and environmental effects. I will give you that. But like so many other viewers have noted, having two parallel runways on the north end of the airport would be far too dangerous seeing how close they are together. San Francisco international has a set up just like that, and they always rate in the top ten each year for number of runway incursions. Its about the safety of the people on the planes. If you aren't happy, then move.

  • The airport cant even afford to replace the torn down canopies that connect the terminals left from the 1995 Hurricanes. Yet the crooked politicians want to billion dollar runway. Go Fig!

  • Completely agree with you.

There are no words to describe the imbecility of the politicians in charge in Broward county.

It is up to us to stop this project.

    Good work, Keep it up.
