Maybe the (loud) sound feels threatening to it and it is instinctively repeating the sound as a defense mechanism. I doubt it's for mating.

My son was throwing a tantrum then the bird starting mocking him. He always mocks him when he crys and so then my son will keep it going just for fun so i guess both
