Disney World Parks and rides that are no more.
Horizons opened in 1983, Epcot's second year of operation, and closed in 1999. It was a great ride portraying a vision of the future. A great pity that it has closed. Shame on you Disney.

  • Thought this was called the carousel of time?

  • "Carousel of Progress" is in the Future World section of the Magic Kingdom. Horizons was in Epcot

  • @cristelvideo It's in Tomorrowland. Future World is an Epcot term.

  • @BucketheadLS1 - sorry to have to correct you but Horizons was definitely a ride in the Future World section of Epcot. It closed in 1999, was demolished and the locationwas then re-used for Mission Space.

  • @cristelvideo - I apologise BucketheadLS1 - I thought you were referring to the loaction of Horizons.

You're correct Carousel of Progress was in Tomorrowland

  • Horizon's was my favorite ride growing up, I really miss the desert area that smelled like oranges, the undersea part and getting to pick how the ride ended

  • People just don't care about this kind of stuff anymore!

  • @hector2282 it was a sequel to Carousel of Progress

  • Disney has become a monopoly of the mouse and commercialized..... all the thoughts, imagination, and future thinking has been demolished. .... I miss the Epcot that cared about roadways for our future, the way we looked at health and the body, and also about imagination...... kiss our memories goodbye : (

  • Damn i was about 4 when this was torn down. I wish i could have seen it. The artwork and scenery above all else looks AMAZING!

  • I owe a large part of my personal creativity to my childhood experiences with these kinds of Disney rides. It's disheartening to see Disney think it has to be like other parks, with flashy, ADHD-inducing thrill rides being the norm. I wish it would return to the days when it was not adrenaline that the rides stimulated, but the natural imagination, wonder, and curiosity of a child.

  • THEY CLOSED HORISONS!!! NOOOOOOO!!!!!!!

  • @Mandimaemoo well you are in the minority because most people thought they were boring. When you pay $50. to go to a theme park you don't want a history lesson, you want THRILLS. That's what Epcot Center was lacking and thats why those attractions are gone. And by themselves they aren't exactly boring, but side by side with the attractions that replaced them, they kind of are.

  • @fattyboomboom54 I'm sorry but I don't agree. I am glad that they brought soarin' and test track, but I do NOT think that any of these ORIGINAL rides are boring in anyway at all...

  • "Shame on you Disney"? Lol It was attractions like Horizons that hurt Epcot Center in the first years after it opened. This was why Epcot was considered the "Boring Park" So Disney got smart and replaced it with Mission Space. It's the same reason why Test Track replaced World of Motion. And Soarin' replaced The Land. They were B-O-R-I-N-G. The people spoke and Disney listened.

  • It's Kool To See People Searching For Horizons Epcot ... My First Visit Was 1987...It Broadened My ..."Horizons" ;o) Checkout My Channel As Well As Myspace..."If We Can Dream It...We Can Do It"

  • Easily the best original ride at EPCOT from 1983-1999.
