Joseph Cusimano, Metaphysical Surrealist artist, 2004/03 -- To become an Artist of considerable power and individuality, one must live in an atmosphere saturated with high ideals and seek the company of the "greats" whether they are living or dead.
I have had the good fortune to have known personally or by correspondence critics and Art Historians like Prof. Corrado Maltese, Prof. Glauco Pellegrini, Prof. Pierre Rosenberg (former Director of the "Louvre"), in addition to Gianni Mattioli, Mr. & Mrs. Reynolds A. Morse (founders of the Salvador Dalì Museum in St. Petersburg, Florida), to mention only a few. They are exceptional individuals who spur you and inspire you. They provide you with the stimulus to draw, paint and grow.
You must spend some time with Shakespeare, Machiavelli, D.H. Lawrence, Stephen Crane, Luigi Pirandello, Benedetto Croce and André Breton; you must revisit ancient Athens and Rome. You must know the Past if you want to conquer the Future.
