By any measure, GG presented the highest concentration of raw compositional power and multi-instrumental chops ever seen in a small prog combo: multiple gifted composers; multiple lead singers; each could play guitar (including the drummer) if called upon -- their all-recorder live ensembles were the stuff of legend ...altogether incomparable.

My favorite thing about this tune is that it really might have been a pop hit..yeah its got all the stuff us music people like but its also catchy..and I admit Iike "Love Will Keep Us Together" by Captian and Tenille...keyboard bass is pretty awesome on that tune

I was always a huge fan of SPOCK'S BEARD,considering them unique for their use of harmony and rhythm. And then I fell on this band. Ouch.This hurt.

@White1Tiger2Dan Don't worry, I learned it from him too.

Honestly, I first heard this song on Jordan Rudess' album, and decided to check out the original.
Thank you JR for showing me this incredible song
And thank you GG for creating this incredible song!

@micheljch OK! :)

@SuperCartiel yeah OK i hear ya; I'm not an idiot - but my point is also that the studio 'tricks' in some songs make them impossible to recreate live. period. nowadays with sampling it's a different story, but would be quite antiseptic. But GG was able to come up with arrangements that worked and which COULD be done live without breaking the bank. 500 characters a pop isn't enough to discuss this so let's just shake hands and agree that we're both fans of the band! OK? :D

@micheljch Do you have the albums 'Free Hand', 'Octopus', and 'In A Glass House'? Compare tracks from those LPs with tracks from 'Playing the Fool: The Official Live Gentle Giant'. Note the differences.

@micheljch Oops - forgot that Phil was main vocalist before he split, so the roles would be reversed.
Gentle Giant always stuns with their remarkable composition skills. By far one of the best prog bands to date.

Music, as it is today, is plastic and forgettable. Everything's woefully synthetic, bland, static and gimmick-laden. At best, it;s eventually disposable.
Gentle Giant had their studio tricks. But it also was original, creative and unique.
This music will stand the test of time.
Will Lady Gaga and her peers?
