The 44th Annual Petroushka Ball was held at the magnificent Grand Ballroom of the Waldorf-Astoria in New York City on February 13, 2009. All proceeds generated by the event will be used to assist disadvantaged children in Russia.
2009 Petroushka Ball included special performances by Irina Dvorovenko and Maxim Beloserkovsky, Principal Dancers at American Ballet Theater; Ekaterina Semenchuk, mezzo-soprano (with kind permission of the Metropolitan Opera); and Daniel Ulbricht, Principal Dancer at New York City Ballet. They were sensational!
Founded in 1926, the Russian Childrens Welfare Society focuses most of its efforts on improving the lives of children at risk in Russia by funding: medical care and training of Russian doctors; orphanages and homeless shelters; rehabilitation centers for the disabled or mentally challenged; educational scholarships (currently we have 42 students); and a major New Year party in Moscow for over 2,000 disadvantaged children.
