  • Kon Tiki voyage was too easy and succesful, so it was pretty surprising that Ra I 20 years later was so disastrous and it was a miracle that the funny amateurish crew stayed alive at all.

  • They disd a mistake with the construction of Ra. With Ra II in 1970 the suceeded with crossing the Atlantic ocean

  • I read the book years ago. I forgot, but what did they do to maintain a fresh water supply?

  • Thor was such a great historian and adventurer, I wish he would had time to make the expedition to find the Aesir origin, I would go with him if i could

Also, there is a theory that the aztec god Quetzalcoatl was a viking lost in the american waters, I wonder if Thor was ever interested in proving this?

  • These guys had gonads of pure titanium. I bet Eddie would say, "Thor would go!"

  • The only reason I didn't get to go with them is that I wasn't alive back then.

  • Great voyage and book. I am one of the two brothers that crossed the Atlantic in the smallest powerboat 2009 Bob Brown

  • In my childhood in the 60ies I read that book Kontiki - I decided to build a bamboo raft to cross the Pacific. Because I thought, the Polynesian people arrived much earlier at the Pacific Islands (at the end of the Ice Age). Proofed is, the Melanesian Islands were populated around 30.000 years ago, these islands are next to Newguinea. We found some 20.000 years old rockpaintings in N-Australia, which shows watercrafts - scientists believe, they came to Polynesia much earlier.

  • I was reading this book in my childhood in the 60ies and I was so impressed. This was my dream, to cross the sea with such a raft. I was sailing a couple of times in the Mediterranean, but not more. So I was interested in his theory. The stoneage people were sailing along coastlines. The oldest known seajourney was 60.000 years ago - these early humans crossed the sea from Indonesia to Australia. Their bomboo rafts worked better as the balsa-wood rafts.

  • thor is from Norway and iom to!! :)
