you're right except Wells wasn't trying to warn us. He was the 1 who said not enough of us had died in WW1; that we needed another war to stampede us into world govt. He coined the propagandist slogan of WW1: the war to end all wars. Very impressive city. They were aiming for this in the 60's and 70's constructing concrete brutalist super structures. Merging multiple city blocks into large super block with Indoor shopping malls office buildings hotels and apartments all in one. But now people hate those buildings. They prefer shopping in a Disney looking lifestyle centers and Walmarts fronted by nothing but a large parking desert! The only mass planning is for cookie cutter neighborhoods  and big box centers.Nothing downtwn

Marvelous how well they predicted today's enclosed shopping malls and convention centers. If you read the book, it goes even further into how much of these people's lives are spent indoors. There are definite advantages.
