however i think it's also fair to say that he has become a part of american pop culture, just as he is part of english pop culture, and he is certainly involved in american tv and music.

however, a lot of english people would make the same mistake as you as thinking that cowell is rich because of his work on these shows... it's the other way around. cowell owns these shows BECAUSE he's in the music business... he didn't suddenly get successful because of pop idol, he has been successful for decades, he's a businessman really, he doesn't have to be a celebrity.

so you used the fact that it's called "american" idol to demonstrate cowell's americanness, when in fact it's called american idol for the opposite reason... because it's actually not american in itself, it's the american version of an english show.

@vZDomination actually mrbusan is right, simon cowell has been a music exec for decades and has done a lot of stuff, and american idol is really not the best example of his "americanness", because the reason why it's called AMERICAN idol is because it's the american branch of what is primarily an english franchise... pop idol. pop idol isn't running anymore, but the x factor is essentially the sequel to it.
