Buy at http://www.shapeways.com/model/64058/over_the_top___17x17x17.html Copyright (c) 2010, M. Oskar van Deventer. Over The Top is a world-record 17x17x17 Rubik's Cube. It makes quite pretty patterns. It can take many, many hours to solve. Search the internet for "17x17x17" to find more information about this unique puzzle.

This video shows Oskar partly disassembling the puzzle to provide a look at the inside. The puzzle is built around a spherical core. There are 6 centers, 12 edges and 8 corners (like in a normal Rubik's Cube) with skyscraper-like structures built on them. All the other pieces hang between those skyscraper, floating over the spherical core. The long ends of these pieces are the "floating anchors" that keep the pieces straight up.

Here is the link to the Guinness World Record: http://www.guinnessworldrecords.com/records/largest-order-rubiks-/-magic-cube.

This puzzle was 3D-printed using nylon-powder SLS technology, which explains its price. It is the very first prototype, costing its designer and maker a lot of money to create. Please do not confuse it for a cheap mass-produced puzzle.

  • uhmm where can i buy the DIY version?

  • @InFectDeFIB See description, 3D-printed by Shapeways.

  • I'm uninformed as to what the previous record-holding dimensions were. That said, was 17 simply the best you could manage, was the previous record holder 16-, or is there some other reason that you decided on 17?

  • @WordsBringChange 17=2^4+1.

  • Imagine that that thing pops ;p

  • @RandomYouriVlogs Little chance. This puzzle does not pop. It is too stable for that. It can be damaged by not carefull operation, though ...

  • @justclimb77 Please remain polite. I appreciate that you wish to buy this puzzle, and I am sorry that your budget currently does not allow it. At this moment, I do not have the desire to start a company, nor do I see a positive business case for mass-producing this puzzle. Please get back to me, once you have rounded up 5000 people who would commit paying $150 for a mass-produced DIY-kit of this puzzle.
