We purchased a heavier-gage screen actually labeled "pet screen" from OSH a few years ago and it's worked well with our indoor kitties. The screen is a little more expensive than a normal screen, but it sure beats replacing it every few weeks.
Description needs changed. ;) You've got the description here as giving your cat a bath.
Anyway, only time we had issues with screen-scratching was my grandfather's cat next door wanting in. Of course, he used to belong to my uncle, who used to live in this house. So the only thing I could do to curb it was sit by with a spray bottle and squirt him when he started clawing at the door screen.
He did sneak his way in one night, though. The other half went to pet Simba, and it wasn't Simba. LOL
