@Tutano2004 My sentiments exactly on stability. Also I'm a developer, and in the developer world of custom shaders, there's no doubt as to which board supports more shader features: it's NVidia. That's not to diss ATI: they make very affordable boards, but again, I'm interested more in shader support, stable drivers, that sort of thing.
i've narrowed it down to the 6950 and the gtx 570. ive read around threads and forums but they havent been able to help me choose one. so youtube community which one of the two is the better option and why?
Thanks for all the help with regards to my i7 or i5 dilemma, im gonna take your advice and go for a i5 and a better graphics card - NVIDIA GeForce GTX 570 1,280MB when purchasing my pc the same motherboard is compatible reguardless of weather or not i pick a i5 or i7 (the Gigabyte Z68AP-D3) does this mean it is a relitivly simple job if i want to upgrade my processor to a 2700k/2600k at a later date?
Guys, go for ATI card if you can. If you can get 2x 5770's or a 5870 it doesn't matter as long as you go for ATI. AMD's aren't bad too but back when ATI were making cards they were beasts and they still are today. I had a 9500GT and it had massive problems (artifacts, crashing etc.). I went for a 5770 and straight away it was not only 6x faster (no lie) but it was extremely stable. Now I have an XFX 6870 dual fan (OC) and gaming couldn't be better.
Yeah, ATI were faster and cheaper than its nVidia counterparts in their time, however the ATI drivers were always buggy and unstable, to not talk about the sponsorship of nVidia on many video games (which means those games have to work flawlessly on them).
So, between speed and stability, personally I prefer stability, the price you pay isn't just hardware, but software as well (proprietary drivers and features), don't forget about that.
My specs: Intel core i7-2600k, ATI HD6950 2GB, 8GB DDR3, 1TB SATA 7200rpm.

ATI without a doubt. Way better.

I like AMD a little bit more, when it comes to video cards. :) I currently use a XFX.
