@pbrlimit karate is kata, kata is the base for all karate kata improves kumte. Think i'm crazy, ask boxers why they shadow box, it's thee same thing, kata gives the karate a way to practice the actual techniques and move dynamically. One thing we must never forget is that karate is not a ring sport and by focusing on that aspect will do nothing but harm.

@bubzzc0la01 their kata

This is Kanku-dai kata :)

I could tell who was going to win by the first movement

@pbrlimit I used to think the same thing, but now I'm more convinced that kata helps you in the first years, while getting into the martial art... I started out with muay thai, then slowly moved towards kumite and the speed I have now is much better than how I used to be when kick boxing

@pbrlimit kata is actual technique man. its just that none understand timing and direct and purpose full strikes. those inside fore arm blocks are strikes. ever been struck in the radii. it is numbing. sharp from kicks. edge of knife hand attack to the kicks being thrown. oooooo, whats that smell? its this form because it is the shiznit.

We need to discard the Kata movements and start focusing on actual technique. And don't start with this "Kata creates the base for future techniques" because it is played out. Machida Karate is the raw, dirty part of Shotokan which requires hard work but - but schools would rather have flash than heart.
Machida knows Kata but that isn't winning him anything in the UFC - what got him the belt was a solid MMA base with an exceptional Shotokan background specifically groomed for real fights.
