  • @jordanandashlyn that is so awesome

  • @NeuwirthFan It's just that Patti Lupone is used to working on Broadway and in comparably sized theaters (1200-2000 seats) using amplification, whereas opera singers are accustomed to working in opera houses (3000+ seats) without using mics. It's not her fault, per se--she just isn't used to working in opera.

  • @Oberon90 I dont think Patti has a weak voice. She's perfect as usual as you can see it from her other songs in the musical. You can't even really hear her sing in this video...

  • Anthony Griffey (the guy on the box) was my babysitter when I was a kid.

  • This is SO good. Aaaaaaah!

  • Can someone get Anthony Dean Griffey's big aria from this opera on here?

  • I saw this production in LA. Griffey and MAcDonald were fantastic, but Patti Lupone was just phoning it in. Hated the design/direction linking it to the Iraq War.

  • Wow,Audra McDonald is a wonderful woman. Great voice, great acting skills and great body. The tenor has a fine voice, sounds very lyric.I got the CD,good cast, but I was a little disappointed about Patti Lupone.Compared to the rest of the cast she has a weak voice(in the classic way)In general I like her.

  • This piano introduction is a parody of overwrought piano playing, and is based on "Maiden's prayer" written by Tekla Badarzewska in the 1800's. Weill's version is quite different than the original, and is quite lovely.

Country swing band leader Bob Wills did a version of "Maiden's prayer" in the 1940's which is still popular among bluegass circles.

  • great diction from the tenor, wow.
