Translation Notes:

This is not word for word. I started with the translation at Ranma 1/2 Perfect Edition, and the translation given by Milo on Yahoo Answers.

I then modified the lyrics to fit the English Lyrics to the melody. This primarily meant adding a lot of words to the opening verse. Tossing and turning, the "daily battle", those are all added. (Although the "weary" part was there). I tried extrapolating based on the idea that this is Akane's song for Ranma when he is sleeping. I feel it's supposed to show her other side (compared to the Baka song).

I hope to have captured the spirit of the song, and also given some good lyrics for people who want to sing along.

What I am most proud of is the chorus. The translations I looked at all had it as some variation on "This song I sing for you". I looked at the original Japanese, (even though my Japanese is very poor), and the word translated as sing translates directly as "give".

No doubt the verb (give) takes on the attribute of the noun (song) and becomes "sing" in a correct translation. However, it gave me the idea to phrase it as "This song, my gift to you" instead. Which I think is perfect for capturing the essence of this song and Akane's relation to Ranma.

I think that phrase is what I really love most about this song.

  • I'm gonna try and find the sheet music (If there is any) and make a music box for my boyfriend that plays this song.

  • Let me know if you find it. I wouldn't mind sheet music myself.

  • Well, like I say in the translation notes, most of the first verse is made up by me (because of the difference in syllable length). I think I did a mediocre job.
