Long live Cowpox!

This poem is dedicated to Sylvia Plath, Anne Sexton and Sylvia Sexton. May all 3 rest in peace.

SYLVIA SEXTON HAS A CURE FOR DEPRESSION

Woke up and found myself a little older,
wondering the ancient question
--what am I alive for?
I walked downstairs
drawn to an aquarium;
the palace of my pet Black Widow
named Sylvia Sexton.

She was a gift from a friend
suffering marriage problems
--and perhaps his idea of a warning.

Gazing through the glass
I just love Sylvia to death,
she hangs upside down eternally
waiting to be fed.

Ms Sexton's skin is darker
than guilty pleasure.
Ms. Sexton's hourglass is bloody
like crucifixion.
Ms. Sexton's etiquette is merciless
--cruel mother nature at her best.

From her tangled web
Sylvia is swaying,
tapping the transparent walls
and saying,

"O, I am black, but comely.
I can hear your hollowness
calling out for relief;

O, reach in, for I offer release.
Lift me to your lips
and Ill give you what you need;

O, bliss is so simple,
just
one
kiss..."

Sometimes, its hard to keep living
when in the back of my mind
there is always a way out

--dangling.

  • Is it just me or does any body else get a Jack Nicholson vibe comming from this?

  • Malthus0: Ha ha... I get that sometimes... but I think it is more my widows peak and balding head more than my voice. If you listen to the youtube poet IraqIsWhack -- HE really sounds like a cross between Jack Nicholson and Christian Slater.... Peace! :P

  • love it... i adore anne sexton

  • 9926arch: thank you. so do I. and she had a voice to DIE for--there is a great video on youtube where is interviewed at her house. anyway, thanks for the comment.

  • LOL RES5

  • Nice poetry!! very unusual

  • :o) Excellent!

  • I hope you're happy, feeding a million cases of arachnaphobia! But seriously, there's a tension to this piece that matches the speaker's measured pacing, which then adds up to the tedium many of us feel during bouts of melancholia and depression that amounts to Understanding.

    As such, this is off-the-charts good.

    Thanks always, sir, for your good work.

  • wow...you are a beautiful man for reciting these prose....just what I needed...of course I am mad for delaying seeing this...you rock player!
