He actually sounds surprisingly like Beefheart, but this song isn't quite crazy enough, it's not quite doing it for me.

Whoa! John French is amazing! I had no idea he could replicate Beefheart that closely. I don't know if I could pass the sonic coke/pepsi taste test.

John French is amazing! It seeems that in the whole history of the Magic Band, whatever he put his mind to doing he did it. Learn to transcribe piano and arrange drums and three guitars in different keys and time signatures into something coherent? No problem! Play drums, guitar and marimba on Doc? Why not?! Become the lead vocalist and harmonica player for the reformed Magic Band? Sure thing! The man is as much a legend as Don himself!

If anyone should step in dons boots its Drumbo. Been with Don from the beginning and written and arranged, particularly on Trout Mask. He does sound close! Sweet guy too!

I wish I'd caught them on this tour. Drumbo does well. Seriously, look at whose act he's trying to follow. Everything is relative.
