Road America is one of the longest, fastest and most beautiful circuits in the world. Ride along with BMW Team RLL driver Bill Auberlen in the No. 55 M3 GT during a lap of practice for this weekend's ALMS Road Race Showcase. August 19, 2011
@chejlr First of all, the porsche the last 3 years really never passed anybody on straight away's, so to even think that they have a push to pass is crazy. There car set up's were just plain better than everyone else or it could be the petition everyone had against lizards for halving an illegal engine cus it didn't weigh enough. The real reason was that they had Joerg Bergmeister who is just an animal behind the wheel. JB is one of the best GT driver there is.
I love that the steering wheel is half blocked... Probably cus the push to pass button is on the left side lol.. I thought the drivers were making stuff up about BMW but now I think I believe this theory... just ask Pat Long, Tom Milner, Olly Gavin, Jaime Melo
@ThatGuy - Clutch and shifting are monkey skills...anyone can do them. The talent is in the steering, brake, and throttle inputs as you balance the car on the limits of adhesion at every point around the track.
(read previous post first)...requires much more finesse and downright skill than does driving some SMG, DCT, and so on. I'm not so ignorant as to say that these race drivers are not extremely skilled and don't have superb touch, but I do feel the reduction in driver inputs and increased number of things now controlled by a computer makes the difference between some run of the mill enthusiast like myself and a "professional" much smaller than in the past.
don't get me wrong....I LOVE BMW (I have an 03' E46 M3 myself) and fully support the Grand Am and ALMS teams...but watching this video and Auberlen's totally static left foot makes me think that I could pilot this car within a second or two of his time. I'm all for modern technology, and the advancements in modern transmissions should be embraced and not fought against since it's simply the best and quickest way around a track. My point is that the manual process of heel-toe, rev matching, etc
Simplesmente lindo .
