  • Octagon is a realistic form of sport combat. But they don't allow small joint manipulations, or any sort of other tricks that aren't sport like. For example, if someone has you on the ground pinned, you could try pinching nerves, pressing pressure points, etc. There are ALOT of tricks that not many people know about any more since the advent of MMA. Don't get me wrong, those guys kick ass. But it is not holy grail.

  • @cloud0123 I have trained MMA and BJJ as well as Bagua. Once at a seminar Luo De Xiu did a takedown on me and I tried use Jiu Jitsu on the grownd (get him in guard). Suffice to say I won't try that again!

  • Remember I was here.Thai 5:54AM 5/15/2011

  • good fighters of any style(MMA, Traditional) is rare. average and poor fighters plenty.

  • @cosytoesUK also most chines martial arts has lost a certain touch and has been deteriorating since the mid to late 1800 since the advent of fire arms in 1600s.

  • MMA guys r physically well trained, look at da size of sum of those guys, their muscles have muscles, internal arts go for different type power and technique, mma has a big advantage one on one, no good on street wid glass, needles on floor + people stamp whoever is on floor. defence for shoot - punch back of neck/spine, knee head/neck/collar bone or sprawl, not a grappler and on floor bite, grab nuts, grab/snap fingers, poke, gauge, bite eyes, pull hair if they have some, grab nearest weapon.

  • Trust me I understand you.The guys in MMA know how to fight better than anybody. The "killer" BS will not save you,nor will it teach you how to fight.I personally, in my own fighting (I also train boxing and MT) theinternal chinese arts have amplified effectiveness forever more than without it.Just in body movement, breath, focus, speed, etc.But it's not fighting in itself. There ARE many things one could do,but once a choke is in it's in.one would still need to learn bjj to learn how to defend

  • @cloud0123 Its always amusing to hear someone claim that there is an ultimate method for fighting. "Sports fighting isn't real-- martial art X is designed to *kill*, so those techniques wouldn't be allowed." Surely if these styles are so all-powerful, the average practitioner could merely subdue one of these clumsly, unskilled MMA fighters. Right?

At the same time, there are truly effective fighters practicing non-modern, traditional systems, some of whom would hold their own in the octagon

  • Very nice! Thank you for sharing!

  • The first statement --im not sure I understan him or she. Been in martial arts sense the age of 12 --im 46 now and got the gold got the blue ribbins and certtfide to teach. My wall is covered . Blah blah blah. This guy is the real deal.Hard to find on utube , most time I shake my head. I would love to spend time with this master

  • Guys why do we always have insist on instructors of a system having to go ahead in combat? I know that the argument goes that it's the chance to test if the system really works. But it's not always a reliable test. Some people do well because they're big mean and ugly. They may do well despite their system and not because of it. An instructor is only teaching you a system that hopefully is effective - he or she is not usually making any claims that they personally are great fighters.
