tool assisted speedrun of "omg the red rings" (incomplete)

This TAS plays the first two zones of the sonic 1 hack "omg - the red rings", a difficult game, which probably can't be beaten, as SY1 and SY2 can't be completed so far.
The game is the same like sonic, but with the rings and monitors being replaced by bouncing red rings, which kill sonic. The game is available, amongst others, at sonicretro.org

TASes are made with modified emulators featuring tools like slowdowns and savestate. Further info at tasvideos.org

Despite the later levels being the more interesting ones, I don't feel like running the other zones, as a speedrun does not differ much from the TAS of sonic, and because I would have to start 2 more movies + using level select.
Also, I really should get back working on kid chameleon.

Sonic is killed, when he touches a red ring (which btw has a ridiculously large collision box).

Well, actually I've found a video of a trick that might make SYZ 1 possible... jumping to the life/shoes place, then bounce off a wasp badnik, and hop over the ceiling. However, that video used speed shoes, which are unavailable in this hack. Question is: is it possible WITHOUT the speed shoes?!

Are you sure? All I managed to hit so far, were the crabs and that did not give me enough boost. The wasps are triggered by coming from the left. Thus I never managed to hit them jumping from the upper platform. And even if I could hit them, I think sonic does not gain much more height, than he had at his first jump.

I'm not sure, but I think nfq discovered this one. The ejection routine of the wall allows sonic to pass through the left edge of the screen, which teleports him far to the right. In the normal sonic TAS, sonic can pass the sign earlier, but in this hack I had to avoid the last ring.

@jomon324 I know this comment is old, but I can explain why the soap looks better, and so does this video. Things when recorded at 24 fps get smoothed to 30 fps it tends to create a flowing video that creates and illusion of excellent movement. Same thing happens with 30 fps bumped to 60 fps.

why is the framerate so high? It's like 80fps or something. I mean HOLY CRAP it's difficult looking and all, but my question is: WHAAAAAYYYY is the framerate like that of a soap opera? (XD I don't watch them, but I had an experience where I flipped from the news to one, flipped back and forth for a bit, and then spent the day wondering why the soap looked better than the news camera. XDDDDD)

The red rings.... = A challenge that even beats the greatest of TASers. When I first read the description of this hack on Sonicretro I thought "Noway could it be impossible, tasers could do it" It appears I was wrong..
