Joseph Marshall III was born and raised on the Rosebud Sioux Indian Reservation and is an enrolled member of the Sicangu Lakota (Rosebud Sioux) tribe. Because he was raised in a traditional Lakota household by his maternal grandparents, his first language is Lakota. In that environment he also learned the ancient tradition of oral storytelling.

I had a very deep dream tonight. In it I heard a command: Follow the Lakotan Traditions. Then a kind of burlap cloth was stuffed into my mouth. I was suffocating in the dream. It woke me up. In the back of my mouth was like strings, I had to actually wash my mouth and throat out. It upset me so much I googled and searched and here I am. I was not in anyway even thinking of Native Americans, I am European, but love you all. Chief Black Elk? He is Lakota, yes? This is not a joke. Please advise.

Very good story told very well. Thank you for sharing.
I wish I could hear it in the Lakota language, even though I won't understand what is being said. Somehow I think it would be even better to hear the story in the strength of it's original language.
