UNION TRIBUNE; MARQUEE PLAYERS '07 Torrey Pines Last year: 9-2. Coach: Scott Ashby, first year. Key players: Brian Brungger (DB-RB), Carter Norfleet (DB-WR), Casey Allred (QB), Robbie Gallagher (RB), Brice Lewis (LB-RB), Danny Corbin (OL-DL), Derek Hegyi (OL-DL), Alex Sawaya (DB-WR), Trevor Roe (TE-LB), Brock Ringo (RB).
UNION TRIBUNE; MARQUEE PLAYERS '08: Shifty RB Brock Ringo returns. The offensive line is small except for 305-pound senior John Hanna. Trevor Roe is a big, strong, point-of-attack blocker at TE, a critical position in the wing-T offense. On defense, starting LBs J.J. Evans and Robert Murray are back. CB Cameron Shimizu is a good one. FS Josh Brown is a strong tackler, with a knack for making plays.
WWW.JCGRIDIRON.COM; Brad Hoiseth JCGridiron.com Publisher Talk about it in the Message Boards- The spring semester is time for movement among the schools and the folks at El Cajon (Calif.) Grossmont College got some good news this spring when a solid tight end prospect decided to come home and play for the Griffins. The soon-to-be sophomore says he looks for big things in 2010 since moving to Grossmont. Grossmont tight end Trevor Roe decided a year away from home was enough and decided to transfer into the program after a season at Santa Barbara City College. He says the Griffin program should get him some much-needed visibility. "I just transferred here before the spring," Roe said. "They had some good players up there, but they didn't get many guys out and I wanted to get closer to home." Roe is 6-foot-4, 230 pounds and runs the 40-yard dash around 4.8 seconds. He says a couple of high-profile programs have already been on campus during the spring. Roe graduated from Torrey Pines High School and was being recruited by San Diego State, New Mexico, San Jose State and Sacramento State before failing to qualify academically. He says he is working hard to get the academics turned around so he can leave after the season. "I should be out in January," Roe said. "I am taking a lot of units right now." Roe says he has skills for any type of offense. Roe has a lot of athleticism and good hands, but if you watch his film his blocking is pretty good as well, Roe also played in the slot at SBCC because of his receiving skills and says Grossmont plans to use him in a similar capacity at times this season. He says he would like to find himself in the Pac 10 some day. "Right now I am really interested in Arizona," Roe said. "I would like to play in the Pac 10. That is my goal." Roe hopes to transfer after the season with three years left to play two years of football at a program of his choice. Roe should get plenty of looks playing at Grossmont in 2010.
